Whereas, Susie Linker started the first Dayton Street Block Party 19 years ago this August and has continued to chair the block party each year since then, along with numerous hours of help from Eddie Linker; and
Whereas, Susie and Eddie have created a vibrant neighborhood community through the block party and welcome back former neighbors to this unparalleled event; and
Whereas, Susie and Eddie have expanded the block party each year to feature neighborhood restaurants that ask to be a part of the celebration with their signature food and drinks; Dayton Street grill masters serving up burgers and brats on the monster grill; outstanding bands and singers that residents look forward to every year; new Dayton Street T-shirts; new kids activities; new contests and new memories for all; and
Whereas, the Dayton Street Block Party is considered the premier block party in Chicago; and
Whereas, the Honorable Michele Smith, the Alderman of the 43rd Ward ,wishes to apprise this august body of Susie and Eddie Linker's lifetime dedication to their community; now, therefore
Be it resolved that we, the Mayor and members of the City Council gathered together this 29th Day of July, 2015 AD, do hereby proclaim August 22, 2015 as Susie and Eddie Linker Day in Chicago, Illinois.
