MEMORIAL RESOLUTION
TRIBUTE TO LATE SISTER MARGARET "MARGE" CONROY, O.P.
WHEREAS, Sister Margaret "Marge" Conroy, O.P. (John Francis) has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 84 on May 10, 2016; and
WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of her passing by the Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman of the 39th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Sister Marge was born on September 2, 1931 on the South Side of Chicago, the daughter of the late James Sr. and Frances (nee Hunt) Conroy; and
WHEREAS, Sister Marge, hearing the call to religious life, made her profession of vows on August 5, 1951 to the Congregation of the Most Holy Rosary of the Order of Preachers, also known as the Sinsinawa Dominican Sisters, receiving her religious name of Sister John Francis; and
WHEREAS, Sister Marge demonstrated her vitality, commitment, and dedication to the many schools, parishes, and religious institutions throughout her fifty years of service, following in the true fashion of the Order's motto of "proclaiming the Gospel through the ministry of preaching and teaching" in order to participate in the building of a holy and just society; and
WHEREAS, Sister Marge was caringly known for her great exuberance, encouragement, and exemplary demeanor that touched the lives of all that she had met along the way, most especially to her beloved Sisters, colleagues, students, and their families; and
WHEREAS, Sister Marge was a dynamic religious woman with a wonderful Irish smile, infectious laughter, and a booming voice that she used to announce Cubs and White Sox scores but, most especially to call the class to her attention. She bestowed upon a work hard, play hard, and pray hard mentality to all of her students; and
WHEREAS, in 2011, Sister Marge was honored by the Archdiocese of Chicago for 60 years of service in the parish schools of St. Richard; Epiphany; St. Giles; St. Barnabas; St. Vincent Ferrer, St. Joseph, Queen of All Saints and as a volunteer chaplain at Mercy Ho...
