RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING CHARNAE CALDWELL AND YOUNG WOMEN'S LEADERSHIP CHARTER SCHOOL
WHEREAS, Fifteen years ago, a group of women in Chicago were inspired by a vision: that in a perfect world, every young woman would be empowered to transform her life through education; and
WHEREAS, For two consecutive years, (2013-2014) all of the Young Women's Leadership Charter School seniors (100%) have graduated and have been accepted to colleges and universities around the country; and
WHEREAS, The prestigious Gates Millennium Scholarship has been bestowed upon, Charnae Caldwell, a 2014 YWLCS senior. This the second year in a row that the school has had a Gates Millennium scholar; and
WHEREAS, Young Women's Leadership Charter School instills a sense of confidence and self-esteem in these young women to transform their lives. Students are taught that there are "No excuses, just results."
WHEREAS, This august body has been informed of this important milestone by the Honorable Michelle A. Harris, Alderman of the 8th Ward and Chairman of the Committee on Committees, Rules and Ethics; and
WHEREAS, The 2014 Young Women's Leadership Charter School graduating class represent the finest standards of the citizens of this great* city of Chicago, in whom its leaders place so much hope and trust; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this thirtieth day of July 2014 A.D., do hereby express our recognition and respect for this important historical legacy with respect to the educational equality for all our young citizens, and do hereby extend to the Young Women's Leadership Charter School our sincere congratulations for their resistance and perseverance and to Charnae Caldwell on being the recipient of the prestigious Gates Millennium Scholarship.
