RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Lt. John W. Francis retired from the Chicago Police Department on November 15, 2012 after 36 years, 6 months, and 20 days of dedicated service to the residents of our City; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this occasion by 19th Ward Alderman Matthew J. O'Shea; and

WHEREAS, Lt. Francis is a lifelong Chicagoan growing up in the Englewood community in St. Theodore Parish and later moving to Mount Greenwood with his loving with Lynn. There, as members of Queen of Martyrs Parish, John & Lynn raised their three sons John (27), Richard (25) and Jeffery (21); and

WHEREAS, As a graduate of Morgan Park High School, Richard J. Daley College, and the University of Illinois-Chicago, John is a testament to the quality of our public education system; and

WHEREAS, Lt. Francis began his very distinguished career as Chicago Police Officer on April 26, 1976 and has earned numerous awards including promotions to the rank of Detective in 1986, Sergeant in 1991, and Lieutenant in 2001; and

WHEREAS, With professionalism and sacrifice, Lt. John Francis and his brothers and sisters in the Chicago Police Department have worked tirelessly to provide us with a safe, stable community in which we can raise our families; and

WHEREAS, Lt. John Francis devoted over thirty-six years of his life in service to the people of the City of Chicago and in doing so has personally ensured that the City of Chicago is the healthy and vibrant community it is today; now, therefore

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council assembled this thirteenth day of March, 2013, do hereby express our gratitude and heartfelt appreciation to Lt. John W. Francis on the occasion of his retirement for his dedication, professionalism and personal sacrifice that he provided during his thirty-six years of public service;
