RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Daniel Marshall Pierce has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 91; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Beloved husband for 39 years to Rhoda Ann Pierce, nee Kaplan, father of sons Andrew (Margalynne), Anthony (Teresa) and Theodore (Anne) and of stepsons Eric (Blake) and Peter (Katie), grandfather to seven grandchildren, and loving brother of the late Ellen (Gardner) Grant and of Susan (Louis) Axelrod; and
WHEREAS, Daniel was born in Chicago, graduated from New Trier High School, Harvard College and Harvard Law School; and
WHEREAS, Daniel was a partner in the law firm of Altheirner, Gray, Naiburg, Strasburger & Lawton where he worked until the firm closed its doors in 2003; and
WHEREAS, Daniel was an Illinois legislator for two decades before serving three terms as mayor of Highland Park; and
WHEREAS, Daniel served as president ofthe North Shore Water Reclamation District; and
WHEREAS, Daniel served in the Air Force during the Korean War, assigned to the Air Force Judge Advocate General's Corps; and
WHEREAS, Daniel became a hearing examiner in the early 1960's for the Illinois Commerce Commission, and was legal counsel to a special legislative committee created in 1961 to investigate the proposed abandonment ofthe Chicago, North Shore and Milwaukee interurban railroad; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Daniel Marshall Pierce imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-second day of April, 2020, do hereby commemorate Daniel Marshall Pierce for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
