RESOLUTION
PFESENTED BY Aid. HARRY OSTERMAN AT CITY COUNCIL ON DECEMBER 16, 2Q20
WHEREAS, The Loyola University Chicago Board of Trustees has approved the elevation of the Insthute of EnvironmentalSustalnability (lES)to the School of Environmental Sustainability (SES), creating Loyola University Chicago's 11th school under the leadership of Founding Dean Nancy C. Tuchman, PhD; and
WHEREAS, The School of Environmental Sustainability solidifies Loyola University Chicago's continued commitment to addressing the causes and impact of global climate change; and
WHEREAS, This makes Loyola University Chicago the first Jesuit University worldwide to launch a flagship School ofEnvironmental Sustainability; and
WHEREAS, Loyola began its earnest commitment to this global problem in 2002.with major environmental sustainability renovations to the three Chicago campuses pledging all new buildings would be LEED certified; and
WHEREAS, Infrastructure renovations have lowered the;University's environmental footprint by 50% and th? University consistently ranks in the top 5% of most green campuses in the country; and
WHEREAS, In 2013 Loyola University Chicago launched the IES which marked another substantial iryest in environmental sustainability and the Chicago community; and
WHEREAS, Loyola has chosen to invest in caring for our common home and the stability of our youth's fu*ure by making a pledge to be a carbon neutral university by 2025; and
WHEREAS, the elevation to school status will further distinguish Loyola University Chicago's mission, as a University called as one to solve the urgent arid complex issues of our time and further showcase Loyola's commitment to not only Chicago but the world;
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here on this sixteenth day of December 2020, do hereby offer our sincere congratulations to the Loyola University Chicago's School of Environmental ...
