I transmit herewith a resolution honoring the life and memory of Jacqueline M. Gray. Your favorable consideration of this resolution will be appreciated.

RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Members of this Chamber were deeply saddened to learn of the passing on January 12, 2011, at age 61, of Jacqueline M. Gray, Assistant Deputy Commissioner of the Commission on Human Relations for the City of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Gray was born in Chicago on March 13, 1949 to Arthur Mines, Sr. and Mary Martinez-Mines; and
WHEREAS, Lovingly referred to as "Jaci," Mrs. Gray .grew up on the South Side of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, Jacqueline M. Gray attended Bennett Elementary school, where she was so popular that she was overwhelmingly elected "Mayor of Bennett City." Afterwards, she graduated from Harlan High School and later received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Roosevelt University in Chicago; and
WHEREAS, Jacqueline M. Gray had a distinguished career, first being employed with the Santa Fe Railroad before going on to work for the Community Renewal Society. Mrs. Gray also worked for the Field Museum of Natural History, where she won an award as "Woman of the Year"; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Gray's most enjoyable and challenging position was as Assistant Deputy Commissioner of the Commission on Human Relations for the City of Chicago. She held that position until she retired in 2008; and
WHEREAS, In her leisure time, Mrs. Gray enjoyed selling Mary Kay products. She was also a long-distance runner, who ran two marathons, her first when she was fifty years old. Most of all, Mrs. Gray loved spending time with family members and friends; and
WHEREAS, Known and admired for her thoughtfulness, generosity and optimism, Jacqueline M. Gray was graced with a sunny disposition that enabled her to brighten every room she entered; and
