CONGRATULATIONS EXTENDED TO THE SALVATION ARMY ON THEIR ONE HUNDRED
FIFTIETH A NNIVERSA R Y

WHEREAS, This year marks the one hundred fiftieth anniversary of The Salvation Army; and

WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of this special occasion by The Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman of the 39th Ward; and

WHEREAS, The Salvation Army celebrates one hundred fifty years of "Doing The Most Good" worldwide this year, marking this historic occasion with a Civic Luncheon on Monday, June 15, at the Sheraton Chicago Hotel and Towers with General Colin Powell, USA (Ret.) delivering the keynote address ; and

WHEREAS, In 1865, William and Catherin Booth founded the Christian Mission in London, and in 1878 it became The Salvation Army; and

WHEREAS, The Salvation Army is an integral part of the Christian Church, following the mainstream of Christian belief and its articles of faith emphasizing God's saving purposes; and

WHEREAS, The Salvation Army is the largest direct provider of social services in the Chicagoland area and serves as a critical safety net for all Chicagoans; and

WHEREAS, Every year the Salvation Army feeds more than 1.4 million nutritious meals; provides more than 2,300 homeless men, women and children with shelter, food and clothing; helps more than 3,900 people recover from addiction; provides a safe haven to more than 3,400 children and teens every month and delivers disaster relief to more than 36,000 individuals; and

WHEREAS, It takes an army to transform lives, fight poverty, homelessness, hunger and violence. By pooling talent, time, compassion and resources, the Salvation Army makes an impact that is vastly larger than any one person could achieve alone; now. therefore

Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago gathered here this seventeenth day of June 2015, do hereby extend our heartiest congratulations to The Salvation Army on their one hundred fiftieth anniversary and wish them every suc...
