Resolution
Whereas, The members of the Chicago City Council wish to congratulate Rabbi Michael Zedek upon his retirement as the spiritual leader of Emanuel Congregation in the Edgewater community; and
Whereas, The City Council has been notified of this important occasion by The Honorable Harry Osterman, Alderman of the 48th Ward; and
Whereas, Rabbi Michael Zedek became the senior rabbi of Emanuel Congregation in 2004, after having served as the chief executive officer of the Jewish Federation of Cincinnati and as the senior rabbi of Temple B'nai Jehudah in Kansas City, Missouri; and
Whereas, Rabbi Michael Zedek has been the recipient of many awards, including a Fulbright-Hays Grant; and
Whereas, Among his many accomplishments have been his numerous engagements as a speaker and a teacher around the world as well as his deep involvement in community activism and civic affairs; and
Whereas, Rabbi Michael Zedek has presided over a congregation that embraces a diversity of viewpoints and lifestyles and places a high value on community-building. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this day of March 16, 2016, do hereby express our congratulations to Rabbi Michael Zedek on his retirement and extend our best wishes on his future endeavors; and
Be it further resolved, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to Rabbi Michael Zedek as an expression of our gratitude.
