RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The late Pastor Henrietta W. Robinson was a resident of the Englewood community for many years, where she served as a dedicated community and faith leader; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her contributions to the City by the Honorable Toni Foulkes, Alderman of the 16th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Henrietta Robinson passed away on March 6, 2001, after over fifty years of service to her community and faith; and
WHEREAS, New Jerusalem Pentecostal Church moved to their current location at 6201 S. May Street in 1969, to which Henrietta was a devoted member. She later became an ordained minister and Assistant Pastor at the church; and
WHEREAS, Henrietta's husband was called to rest in 1973, and from then on, Henrietta served the church faithfully as Pastor, and was officially installed as Pastor in 1974 by Bishop D.R. Bell; and
WHEREAS, In Henrietta's role as Pastor and a community leader, she founded a Women's Day in 1968, lead community programing, summer bible school, meal programs for neighborhood children and more; and
WHEREAS, Henrietta's unique leadership style and divine guidance by God continues to be a role model for all people in Chicago and those within her faith community, an example of civic dedication, tireless faith in God and the highest moral standards; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and Members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, assembled this twentieth day of September, 2018, do hereby commend Pastor Henrietta W. Robinson for her contributions to the Englewood community and the City of Chicago.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the City Council of the City of Chicago hereby dedicates the 6200 block of May Street as "Henrietta Robinson Street."
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution are presented to the family of Pastor Henrietta W. Robinson and the New Jerusalem Pentecostal Church as a sign of our honor, gratitude, and respect.
