RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, Cecil D. Andrus has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 85; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, Cecil D. Andrus was the loving and devoted husband of Carol; and

WHEREAS, Cecil D. Andrus was the much-adored father of Tana, Tracy and Kelly to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

WHEREAS, Cecil D. Andrus was the much-adored grandfather of three and great-grandfather of one; and

WHEREAS, Cecil D. Andrus was the longest-serving Governor in Idaho history where he was elected four times and served for fourteen years from 1971 to 1977 and from 1987 to 1995; and

WHEREAS, Cecil D. Andrus was the U.S. Secretary of the Interior under President Jimmy Carter; and

WHEREAS, Cecil D. Andrus had a leadership role in the passage of the Alaska Lands Act which provided protection to more than 157 million acres of land, including national parks, monuments and forests; and

 

 

WHEREAS, Cecil D. Andrus was a staunch conservationist and environmental advocate; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Cecil D. Andrus serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Cecil D. Andrus to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Cecil D. Andrus imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this sixth day of September, 2017, do hereby commemorate Cecil D. Andrus for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Cecil D. Andrus.
