RESOLUTION CELEBRATING THE 11™ WARD'S 13™ ANNUAL FLAG DAY CEREMONY
WHEREAS, June 14th, 2019 will mark the 13th Annual Flag Day Ceremony in the 11th Ward; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this day by the Honorable Patrick D. Thompson, Alderman of the 11th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Alderman Patrick D. Thompson, Cook County Commissioner John P. Daley, the South Loop Chamber of Commerce, the Chicago Fire Department, the Chicago Police Department, Reverened William McFarlane and local residents will gather to honor the American Flag at 4500 South Halsted Street
WHEREAS, Our iconic American Flag's design is made up of 50 white stars, 7 red stripes and 6 white stripes; and
WHEREAS, The 50 stars on the flag represent the 50 states of the United States of America, and the 13 stripes of red and white represent the thirteen colonies that declared independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain; and
WHEREAS, The Flag Day Proclamation was established on May 30th, 1916 by the 28th President, Woodrow Wilson; and
WHEREAS, August 3rd, 1949 when President Truman signed an Act of Congress designating June 14th as National Flag Day every year; and
WHEREAS, This is the largest Flag ceremony in the country, that will honor the American Flag. Representatives will be present to properly dispose of over 10,000 tattered and worn American, City of Chicago, POW and MIA Flags and
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago gathered here this twelfth day of June 2019, do hereby commemorate the 13th annual Flag Day Ceremony.
