Title: Tribute to late Dorthea B. Cotton

WHEREAS, On Thursday, December 5, 2013, the Almighty God, in His infinite wisdom called Dorthea B. Cotton to her eternal journey; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by the Honorable Lona Lane, Alderman of the 18th Ward; and
 
WHEREAS, Dorthea was bom on April 1, 1926, in Pittsburgh, PA, the fourth child bom to the union of Magnolia and Caleb Davis. She was educated at Peabody High School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She moved to Chicago, Illinois in 1940.
 
WHEREAS, She married Silas Swope and to this union, two children were bom, Silas and Raymond. Later she remarried Archie L. Cotton, two children were born, Archie Jr. and Neadra; and
 
WHEREAS, Dorthea organized block club meetings, and block parties. She visited the sick and elderly, was a great sister, good wife, excellent mother, a loyal friend and a great cook. Dorthea was a believer in Christ, and read her bible. She exemplified love, leadership, patience and was always willing to share; and
 
WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by both husbands, Raymond Silas Sr. and Archie L. Cotton Sr.; her loving parents, Magnolia Davis, and Archie L. Cotton; two sisters; and one brother; and leaves behind to cherish her memory her loving daughter, Neadra Cotton; two sons, Raymond Silas Jr. and Archie Cotton Jr.; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends; now, therefore,
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here in assembly this fifteenth day of January 2014 A.D., do hereby express our sorrow on the passing of Dorthea Cotton and extend to her family and friends our deepest sympathy; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to the family of Dorthea B. Cotton.
