RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, John A. Bills has announced his retirement as Managing Deputy Commissioner of the Chicago Department of Transportation following a long and distinguished career in public service; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Aldermen Edward M. Burke and Marty Quinn; and
WHEREAS, John A. Bills began his career with the City of Chicago in 1979 and within five years was named a Sub Foreman of Lamp Management; and
WHEREAS, John A. Bills became an Assistant Superintendent of Electrical Operations in 1989 and General Superintendent for the Bureau of Electricity in 1994; and
WHEREAS, John A. Bills continued to rise through the ranks and became an Assistant Commissioner of the Bureau of Electricity in 1998 and championed the Red Light Photo Enforcement Program which has resulted in a significant reduction in traffic accidents on Chicago streets; and
WHEREAS, In 2004, John A. Bills was named the Deputy Director of City Operations for the Office of Emergency Communications and in 2010 was appointed to serve as Managing Deputy Commissioner of the Chicago Department of Transportation; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his thirty-two year career with the City of Chicago, John A. Bills upheld the finest and most noble traditions of public service; and
WHEREAS, John A. Bills is the loving and proud father of Jessica, John, Sean and Danny; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of John A. Bills serve as an example to all; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this sixth day of July, 2011, do hereby congratulate John A. Bills on the occasion of his retirement and do hereby express our best wishes for his continued good health, fulfillment and prosperity; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to John A. Bills.
