RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Rick Uchwat has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of sixty-four; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A native of Austria, Rick Uchwat was the loving and devoted husband of Barbara Uchwat; and
WHEREAS, Rick Uchwat was the founder and owner of Zanies Comedy Club, an iconic Chicago institution; and
WHEREAS, After being seriously wounded during the Vietnam War, Rick Uchwat pledged to find as much joy in life as was possible; and
WHEREAS, Rick Uchwat opened Zanies in 1978 and it soon became both one of the largest and one of the most popular stand-up comedy clubs in the country; and
WHEREAS, Rick Uchwat helped launch the careers of such legendary comedians as Jay Leno, Jerry Seinfeld, and Richard Lewis; and
WHEREAS, Comics who patronized his club viewed Rick Uchwat as an owner who was more interested in the joy of comedy than in making money; and
WHEREAS, Rick Uchwat will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends, and colleagues; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Rick Uchwat imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this eighth day of June, 2011, do hereby commemorate Rick Uchwat for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Rick Uchwat.
