At the request of the Commissioner of Planning and Development, I transmit herewith ordinance authorizing a land exchange with Southern Railway Corporation.

AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE EXCHANGE OF CITY PROPERTY FOR THE FORMER ENGLEWOOD CONNECTING LINE
WHEREAS, the City of Chicago ("City") is a home rule unit of government by virtue of the provisions ofthe Constitution ofthe State of Illinois of 1970 and, as such, may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs; and
WHEREAS, the City is the owner of certain real property located on the 6000 block of South Lafayette Avenue, which is legally described on Exhibit A attached hereto and depicted on Exhibit B attached hereto (the "60th Street Property"); and
WHEREAS, the City is also the owner of certain real property formerly comprising a part of (or located near) access ramps for the Chicago Skyway located in the vicinity of 63rd Street, Michigan Avenue and Prairie Avenue, which is legally described on Exhibit C attached hereto and depicted on Exhibit D attached hereto (the "Skyway Property"); and
WHEREAS, the 60th Street Property and the Skyway Property are collectively referred to herein as the "City Property"; and
WHEREAS, Norfolk Southern Railway Company ("NS") is the owner of a former elevated rail line known as the "Englewood Connecting Line" that runs generally from South Wallace Avenue (600 West) on the east to South Hoyne Avenue (2100 West) on the west along the 58th/59th Street corridor, which is legally described on Exhibit E attached hereto and depicted on Exhibit F attached hereto (the "Englewood Connecting Line"); and
