RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Junior League of Chicago is celebrating its Centennial Anniversary on May 18, 2011; and
WHEREAS, The Junior League of Chicago is a metropolitan organization of women committed to promoting volunteerism, developing the potential of women, and improving the community through effective action and leadership of trained volunteers; and *
WHEREAS, Founded in 1912 by Lucy McCormick Blair Linn, early community projects included assistance to working women and orphaned children, public health, and* relief efforts during the First World War; and
WHEREAS, ,The Junior League of Chicago has made a profound contribution to our community through its leadership in volunteerism and ongoing service to our citizens; and
WHEREAS, During the 1980's the Junior League of Chicago opened Express Ways Children's Museum, which is known today as the Chicago Children's Museum. Most recently the Junior League of Chicago has focused on a healthy lifestyle initiative, launching Kids in the Kitchen, a local program empowering youth to make healthy lifestyle choices; Health Train, a mobile health fair for children; and Girls Get Gourmet, a program for at-risk youth and their caregivers that promotes healthy lifestyles through cooking demonstrations, information presentations and exercise tips; and
WHEREAS, The City of Chicago is pleased to recognize this milestone in the history of the Junior League of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Vi Daley, Alderman of the 43rd Ward has brought this milestone event to the attention of this august body; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this thirteenth day of April, 2011, A.D., do hereby congratulate the Junior League of Chicago on the celebration of their Centennial Anniversary and extend pur best wishes to this organization for their continued success.
