Resolution
WHERAS, Joseph Alfano has achieved the rank of Eagle Scout as an outstanding member of the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 609, chartered to Morgan Park Baptist Church; and,
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this occasion by Alderman Virginia A. Rugai; and,
WHEREAS, Joseph first became involved in service projects in the community after his move to the Beverly area in 1999; and,
WHEREAS, a senior at Brother Rice High School, Joseph is an active and enthusiastic member of his school community; and
WHEREAS, while earning his rank achievements, Michael has held many positions in the troop including Assistant Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader, and Instructor; and,
WHEREAS, Joseph has attended Owasippe Scout Camp for many years and is an Order of the Aitow Ordeal Member. At camp, Joseph enjoyed attaining group merit badges in archery, basketry, rifle shooting, space exploration, and fishing, while bonding with the other Scouts; and,
WHEREAS, Joseph has earned thirty merit badges, and advanced to the Eagle Scout Level in December 2009; he has also acquired the Boy Scout Lifesaving badge; and,
WHEREAS, for his Eagle Scout project, Joseph worked with the Chicago Park District to beautify Munroe Park. With the help of his fellow scouts and friends, Joseph planted flowers, cleaned up garbage, and went to many lengths to restore the neighborhood park; and,
WHEREAS, over the years, Joseph has enjoyed scouting trips to the Indiana Dunes and skiing in Wisconsin; and,
WHEREAS, Joseph's hard work, commitment, and dedication has earned him the respect and admiration of his mother Michelle, father Alfredo Ortiz, his Scoutmaster Don Eppley, friends and all associated with the Boy Scouts of America; Now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, that the mayor and the member of the Chicago City Council, in meeting assembled this ninth day of February, 2011, do hereby congratulate and pay tribute to Joseph Alfano for achieving the Boy Scout Rank of Eagle Scout; and,
