WHEREAS: Dennis Tufano, son ofthe late Joseph and Bernice Tufano, was born on September 11,1946. He was raised on the 2400 block of North Mozart Ave. in Logan Square. He attended St. Sylvester grade school and the former Gordon Tech High School (now DePaul Academy).
WHEREAS: In 1966, he was the original voice ofthe Chicago-based rock band The Buckinghams. The band charted eight hit records nationally, five of which were in the top ten including a Billboard No. 1 hit "Kind of a Drag".
WHEREAS: In 1970 he began a solo career working with various recording artists, toured with Olivia-Newton-John and had several guest appearances in Motion Pictures.
WHEREAS: Dennis continues to perform across the United States and on March 12, 2016 he will return to his Hometown to raise funds in support ofthe William Howard Taft High School Arts and Music Department.
WHEREAS: William Howard Taft High School is an education institute that instills in all its students a passion for learning, readiness to pursue personal and career aspirations and the capacity to thrive as responsible citizens in a global society.
BE IT RESOLVED: That we, the Mayor and members ofthe City Council ofthe City of Chicago gathered here this tenth day of February 2016, do hereby express our gratitude to Dennis Tufano and we extend our very best wishes for continuing success and fulfillment.
