TRIBUTE TO PATRICK FINUCANE

WHEREAS, In His Infinite Wisdom, Almighty God has granted Chicago Police Detective Patrick Finucane, an outstanding public servant and member of his community, eternal rest on December 23, 2012; and

WHEREAS, Detective Patrick Finucane was the son of the late Thomas and Gertrude Finucane; brother to Bill, Maggie, Mary, and Jim; devoted uncle to Sean, Shannon, Erin, Tom and Katie; and loving nephew to Margaret E. Finucane. He was never married; and

WHEREAS, Patrick Finucane grew up in the Bridgeport neighborhood as a lifelong White Sox fan. He attended St. Bridget Parochial School, De LaSalle High School and went to City College. Before joining the Chicago Police Department he was an Andy Frain usher and worked for Commonwealth Edison; and

WHEREAS, Patrick Finucane was hired on November 29, 1982 and wore Star #20520 and served in the Fillmore District where he worked with former Police Superintendent Phil Cline when Cline was a lieutenant on a tactical team. Finucane transferred to the Monroe district where he served six years before joining the Chicago Police Marine Unit until he was promoted to Detective on December 8, 1998 and assigned to Area 4 on the Far South Side; and

WHEREAS, Detective Patrick Finucane became reacquainted with former Superintendent Cline through his volunteer activities for the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation, organizing and taking active part in their two annual fundraisers; and

WHEREAS, A spokesperson for the Chicago Police Department said that Detective Patrick Finucane was a respected and dedicated member of the Chicago Police Department for more than three decades, working tirelessly for both the city of Chicago and on behalf of the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation. Former Superintendent Cline saluted him as a "consummate professional" who passed away too soon; and
