RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Anthony "Tony" Maruszak a longtime resident of the Southwest Side Army veteran of the Korean War, is a highly regarded member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars; and
WHEREAS, A resident of the Garfield Ridge community, Anthony "Tony" Maruszak served his country from 1951 to 1953 as a Private First Class in the United States Army Corps of Engineers; and
WHEREAS, Anthony "Tony" Maruszak is a member of Rhine Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2729 located at 5858 South Archer Avenue in Chicago; and
WHEREAS, Anthony "Tony" Maruszak has served for the past year as statewide "Man of the Year" as designated by the Illinois VFW; and
WHEREAS, Anthony "Tony" Maruszak will conclude his tenure at the organization's annual convention to be held in June in Springfield, when a new designee is named as "Man of the Year"; and
WHEREAS, Raised in St. Ann Parish in the Pilsen neighborhood, Anthony "Tony" Maruszak worked for 24 years for Sears Roebuck 8& Company at its distribution center at Archer and Cicero Avenues; and
WHEREAS, Anthony "Tony" Maruszak was the loving husband for 57 years of the late Helen "Lou" Maruszak and is the much-adored father of two children; and
WHEREAS, Anthony "Tony" Maruszak is a past Illinois District 3 VFW Commander who is widely respected by his fellow veterans; and
WHEREAS, Anthony "Tony" Maruszak is a proud veteran who is exceedingly worthy of our highest admiration and esteem; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this fifteenth day of April, 2015, do hereby express our sincere appreciation to Anthony "Tony" Maruszak for his military service and do hereby declare that April 15, 2015, shall be officially recognized as Anthony "Tony" Maruszak Day throughout the City of Chicago; and
