A Resolution Honoring'Shen Yun Performing Arts

WHEREAS, Shen Yun Performing Arts, formerly known as Divine Performing Arts, is a cultural-arts and entertainment company based in New York. It performs classical Chinese dance, ethnic and folk dance, and story-based dance, with orchestral accompaniment and solo performers.
WHEREAS, Shen Yun Performing Arts, the largest ensemble of Chinese dancers, choreographers and musicians in the country, will perform an interesting cultural event in Chicago during May 10-12, 2013 at the Cadillac Palace Theatre in downtown Chicago; and
WHEREAS, According to Shen Yun, their name translates the phrase Shen Yun as "the beauty of divine beings dancing"; and
WHEREAS, Shen Yun Performing Arts was founded in 2006, as a company with approximately 30 dancers, as well as an orchestra, soloists, artistic directors and production staff. Today the group is composed of three performing arts companies: The New York Company, The Touring Company, and the International Company, with of a total of over 200 performers; and
WHEREAS, For seven months a year, Shen Yun Performing Arts tours to over 130 cities across Europe, North America, Oceania, and Asia. Shen Yun's shows have been staged in several leading theaters, including New York's Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, London's Royal Festival Hall, Washington DCs Kennedy Center, and Paris' Le Palais de Congres; and
WHEREAS, the Shen Yun Performing Arts performances have been seen by an estimated one 1.5 million people worldwide; and
WHEREAS, Shen Yun Performing Arts is widely heralded for providing their audiences with a visually stunning and spectacularly dazzling tour of 5,000 years of Chinese history and culture. They incorporate bravura displays of acrobatics and grandly evocative stories told through flourishes of Chinese classical dance; and now therefore
