WHEREAS; Mary Griffin, The 8th Grade Teacher at Saint Gabriel School, has retired on August 2, 2018, after 46 years of dedicated service; and


WHEREAS; St. Gabriel Community is honoring Mary Griffin on Saturday, November 10, 2018, at the 4:30 p.m. mass with a reception following in the school hall; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this milestone by Patrick D. Thompson, Alderman of the 11th Ward; and

WHEREAS, Mary Griffin began her career of 46 years in 1972 thanks to Mrs. Berger who lived in St. Gabriel Parish; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Berger called Mary Griffin to come to meet the principal and pastor; after a few questions, gave her the contract; and

WHEREAS; Mary Griffin's father had arranged a job for her at a Public School making much more money, but Mary Griffin said she felt a calling to be in the Catholic School and to share her faith; and

WHEREAS, Mary Griffin's father gave her his blessing and to this day Mary Griffin is thankful to God for guiding her through the good and the bad times to keep her. at St. Gabriel School for all of 46 years of her teaching career; and

WHEREAS, Mary Griffin has also given her time to coach volleyball, academic bowl teams, and to support students in various sports, events and worthy causes; and

WHEREAS, Over these many years, Mary Griffin has been an integral part of St. Gabriel School and contributed to the community in ways that cannot be overstated; and


WHEREAS, Known for her generosity and kindness, Mary Griffin has positively influenced and enriched the lives of students to whom she has steadfastly imparted the values of faith, hard work, and integrity; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice, and dedication of Mary Griffin serve as an example to all; now, therefore


BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this thirty-first day of October ...
