RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Joseph Edmund Lazo has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 39; and
WHEREAS, The ,Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant Lazo is beloved grandson of Marilyn and Ed Kelly, fiance of Maria Salas, adored brother, nephew, uncle, and friend of many; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant Lazo and two other Niles police, JosephPaglia, a retired detective, and Michael White, a community service officer had traveled from Illinois to Texas to ride with the Thin Blue Line Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club, which supports officers who have been seriously injured or killed in the line of duty; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant Lazo and the other two Niles police were killed from a drunk driver crash in Texas; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant Lazo, a police officer since 2008, received.numerous accolades, including department commendations and complimentary letters from members of the public during his years of service; and
WHEREAS, Lazo Was promoted to sergeant on November 1, 2018 in the Niles Police Department and completed a certificate in police personnel supervision from the Northwest University Center for Public Safety; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Joseph Edmund Lazo imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this Ninth day of September, 2020, do hereby commemorate Joseph Edmund Lazo forhis grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; arid
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to
. the family of Joseph Edmund Lazo.
