RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Sister Ann Ida Gannon has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 103; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Sister Ann Ida Gannon was a longtime leader in the field of education and a devoted member for 85 years of the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary; and
WHEREAS, Born in Chicago to the late George and Hanna Murphy Gannon, Sister Ann Ida Gannon was raised in St. Jerome's Parish on the Far North Side; and
WHEREAS, Sister Ann Ida Gannon attended Immaculata High School and entered the BVM congregation in 1932; and
WHEREAS, Sister Ann Ida Gannon professed her final vows in 1940 and earned a doctorate degree in philosophy from St. Louis University; and
WHEREAS, Beginning in 1951 Sister Ann Ida Gannon taught philosopy for six years at Mundelein College before she was named President and served in that position from 1957 to 1975; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her tenure, Sister Ann Ida Gannon inspired women to achieve their highest aspirations and carved out a reputation as a forward-looking leader; and
WHEREAS, Sister Ann Ida Gannon taught at St. Mary High School, Saint Ferdinand Elementary School and St. Charles Elementary School; and
WHEREAS, In 1975 Sister Ann Ida Gannon was presented with the Laetare Medal by the University of Notre Dame in recognition of her outstanding service to Catholicism and society; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Sister Ann Ida Gannon serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, Sister Ann Ida Gannon was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To her sister, Sister Joan Gannon, and her beloved family, Sister Ann Ida Gannon imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
