WHEREAS, Jane Garza Mancillas has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God to her eternal reward; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by the Honorable Patrick D. Thompson, Alderman of the 11 Ward; and

WHEREAS, Jane Garza Mancillas, nee Kasper, 70, Born June 30, 1948 in Chicago, the daughter of Alex and Anne (Jakovich) Kasper; and
WHEREAS, Jane Garza Mancillas married Raul Mancillas on December 8, 1988; brother, Michael (Mary) Kasper; nephew, Michael Kasper; niece Anne Campbell; grandnephew Logan Campbell; and special foster children, Yaruzy, Yaretzi and, Yaendi. Preceded in death by her parents; aunt, Michaelene Smith; and uncles, Henry Smith and Eddie Kasper; and godmother to 11; and

WHEREAS, Jane Garza Mancillas attended McClellan Elementary School and Thomas Kelly High School. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Special Education from Southern Illinois University, a Master of Social Work from the University of Chicago, and a Master of Science in Early Childhood Education from National Louis University; and


WHEREAS, Jane Garza Mancillas was a community leader being the Executive Director of El Hogar del Nino (home of the child in the Pilsen and Little Village Communities) for over 30 years; and

WHEREAS, Her love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Jane Garza Mancillas to her family members, friends and all who knew her, and enabled her to enrich their lives in a way they will never forget; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago gathered here this twentieth day of September 2018, do hereby express our sorrow on the death of Jane Garza Mancillas and extend to her family and friends our deepest sympathy; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Jane Garza Mancillas.
