WHEREAS, Carolyn Watts Garrett was called to her final resting place; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed body has been notified of Carolyn Watts Garrett's passing by the Honorable Alderman Anthony Beale of the 9th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Carolyn Watts Garrett was born on September 24, 1944, to Alvin "Albert" Lee Williams Campbell and Beulah (Stanton) Watts Campbell in Clarksdale, Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, Carolyn attended Booker T. Washington and Myrtle Hall IV elementary schools and W.A. Higgins High School in Mississippi. She graduated from Coahoma Junior College; and
WHEREAS, She confessed a love for Jesus Christ at an early age at Centennial Baptist Church in Clarksdale; and
WHEREAS, Carolyn moved to Chicago in 1964 working for Spiegel's Catalog and as a cashier at several currency exchanges. In June of 1966 she began working for the State of Illinois. Carolyn worked in Illinois' Department of Public Aid and Central Management Services for thirty-eight years; and
WHEREAS, She was an outstanding seamstress. Carolyn could sew anything from wedding gowns to men's suits and was also expert at crochet; and
WHEREAS, Carolyn had many passions. She enjoyed reading, playing cards, shopping and talking politics; and
WHEREAS, Carolyn will be greatly missed for her kindness and generosity to friends and family; and
WHEREAS, Carolyn Watts Garrett was preceded in death by two sisters, Leatha W. Franklin and Loretta W. Banks; two grandsons, Tahari Rash and Malcolm Watts; and a former spouse, Preston Garrett, Jr.; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Garrett leaves to cherish her memory her two loving sons, Marvin Lydell Watts and Olan Bryant (Schnell) Garrett; grandson, Lydale Watts; sister, Sandra E. Harper; brother, Maurice (Marshella) Campbell; two aunts, Leona Spearman and Sarah Rhodes; and nieces, nephews, family and friends; now, therefore,
