City Council June 17th, 2020
RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Rong Yang Tan has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 90 to his eternal reward; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by the Honorable Patrick D. Thompson, Alderman of the 11th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Rong Yang Tan, passed away April 10, 2020; beloved husband of Xing Ping Tan; loving father of Kelly (Andrew) Toy, Yu Ming (Yu Juan Wen) Tan, Ri Zhong (Ling Yee Yau) Tan and Jennifer (Vincent) Soung; cherished grandfather of Jonathan Toy, Joshua Toy, Samantha Soung, Candace Tan, Ethan Soung, Clement Tan; preceded in death by 9 siblings; fond uncle of many nieces and nephews; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Tan was born in Guangdong, China, immigrated to the United States in July of 1986 for the benefit of his family; He lost his parents at a young age and his older siblings helped to raise him; Mr. Tan was a man of great character and a well respected Community Leader in China; Mr. Tan was also an extremely successful entrepreneur in China with the ownership of a restaurant; After leaving his successes behind in China, Mr. Tan's strength and determination brought him continued success in his career as a cook in the United States; He was very proud to support his family for a better life; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Mr. Tan to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members ofthe City Council ofthe City of Chicago gathered here this seventeenth of June 2020, do hereby express our sorrow on the death of Rong Yang Tan and extend to his family and friends our deepest sympathy; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Rong Yang Tan.
