SALUTE TO THE OLD TOWN TRIANGLE ASSOCIATION
AND THE OLD TOWN ART FAIR
WHEREAS, The Old Town Triangle Association, one of this city's outstanding and oldest community-based, not-for-profit organizations, is celebrating its 65th Anniversary; and
WHEREAS, The Old Town Triangle Association is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for residents who live in the triangle-shaped neighborhood bounded by North Avenue, Clark Street, and, until 1967, what used to be Ogden Avenue; and
WHEREAS, In 1950, the Old Town Triangle Association organized an outdoor arts and crafts fair, a project that both generated revenue to support the associations active agenda and showcased the many artists and craftspeople who resided in and around the community; and
WHEREAS, Today, the "Old Town Art Fair" is a staple ofthe myriad of neighborhood festivals that enliven this city's summer season. The money it generates enables the Old Town Triangle Association to plant trees, create and service public spaces, improve parkways and monitor the neighborhood for safety and security as well as provide grants to schools and other eleemosynary agencies in pursuit of the founders' mission of building and supporting a community; and
WHEREAS, The Old Town Triangle Association strives to preserve the architectural and historical integrity of buildings within the Triangle and maintains records of their activities, decisions, and events that serve as a history of the community for future generations and a historical reference for current residents; and
WHEREAS, The 63rd Annual Old Town Art Fair will take place during the weekend of June 8 and June 9, 2013, along Lincoln Park West, Menomonee, Orleans and Wisconsin Streets in the Old Town Triangle Landmark District; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Michele Smith, Alderman of the 43rd Ward, has apprised this august body of this venerable association's significant milestone and signature summer event; now therefore
