RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, Jamelle Folsom has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of eighty-five; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, A woman of dignity, grace and charm, Jamelle Folsom was a First Lady of the State of Alabama and the wife of the legendary late Governor James E. "Big Jim" Folsom; and
 
WHEREAS, Jamelle Folsom was the much-adored mother the Honorable James E., Jr., who served as the 50th Governor of Alabama; and
 
WHEREAS, Jamelle Folsom is also survived by daughters, Melody, Jamelle, Thelma, Layla, Melissa and Rachel; and
 
WHEREAS, The much-beloved matriarch of her family, Jamelle Folsom was a devoted grandmother and great-grandmother; and
 
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Jamelle Folsom serve as an example to all; and
 
WHEREAS, Her love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Jamelle Folsom to her family members, friends and all who knew her, and enabled her to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
 
WHEREAS, To her beloved family, Jamelle Folsom imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twelfth day of December, 2012, do hereby commemorate Jamelle Folsom for her grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to her family; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Jamelle Folsom.
