RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Margaret McDermott has announced her retirement, effective in July of 2013, as the Chief Executive Officer of Presence Saints Mary and Elizabeth medical center; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Margaret McDermott has served as Chief Executive Officer since 2003 and is a forty-year veteran of the health care industry in Chicago; and
WHEREAS, During her esteemed tenure, Margaret McDermott oversaw the integration of the medical staffs and clinical services of St. Mary of Nazareth Hospital Center and Saint Elizabeth Hospital; and
WHEREAS, Margaret McDermott additionally led the process of developing a ten-year plan for campus redevelopment at Saints Mary and Elizabeth medical Center; and
WHEREAS, The hallmark of Margaret McDermott's career has been her skillful approach to achieving goals, involving physicians, management and community leaders; and
WHEREAS, Margaret McDermott's enthusiasm for education and mentoring has drawn her to serve as a member of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago's Big Shoulders Program where she has volunteered as a mentor for the Gallagher Scholarship program; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Margaret McDermott serve as an example to all; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this thirteenth day of February, 2013, do hereby congratulate Margaret McDermott on th occasion of her retirement and do hereby declare that February 13, 2013, shall be officially recognized as Margaret McDermott Day throughout the City of Chicago; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Margaret McDermott.
