RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING ST. VOLODYMYR UKRAINIAN ORTHODOX CATHEDRAL PARISH ON ITS 100th ANNIVERSARY
WHEREAS, St. Volodymyr Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral Parish is celebrating its 100th anniversary; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed body has been informed of this milestone by the Honorable Brian Hopkins, Alderman of the 2nd Ward; and
WHEREAS, St. Volodymyr Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral Church was established in 1916; and
WHEREAS, St. Volodymyr was the first Ukrainian Orthodox church in the United States; and
WHEREAS, St. Volodymyr is part of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA; and
WHEREAS, The Church was originally on West Erie Street near Damen Avenue; and
WHEREAS, in 1945 St. Volodymyr Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral Church moved to its current location at 2250 West Cortez Street in the Ukrainian Village neighborhood; and
WHEREAS, St. Volodymyr was elevated to the status of a cathedral in 1937; and
WHEREAS, The Parish is the location of many life events and the source of spiritual strength to its members; and
WHEREAS, St. Volodymyr has been a central part of Ukrainian life in Chicago including participating in the 1928 Women's World Fair and in the 1933 Century of Progress International Exposition; and
WHEREAS, St. Volodymyr Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral is celebrating its 100th Anniversary on October 30th, 2016; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this fifth day of October, 2016, do hereby congratulate St. Volodymyr Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral Parish on its 100th anniversary and wish the Parish continued spirituality and fulfillment.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to St. Volodymyr Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral Parish.
