RESOLUTION HONORING NORA BUTLER ON THE OCCASION OF HER ONE HUNDREDTH BIRTHDAY
WHEREAS, Nora Butler will be celebrating the momentous occasion of her centennial birthday on October 26, 2013; and
WHEREAS, the Chicago City Council has been informed of this occasion by the Honorable Nicholas Sposato, esteemed Alderman of the 36th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Nora Butler was born in San Bernadino, California, the beloved daughter of Leo Dellamorte and Susie Douglas; and
WHEREAS, after losing her father, Nora, at the age of 16 years, came to Chicago on a boxcar with her mother Susie to make a new life on Loomis Street; and
WHEREAS, Nora's mother remarried and gave Nora seven siblings: Joseph, Harry, Nello, Edith, Catherine, Elizabeth and Delia to share her life; and
WHEREAS, Nora worked hard in the Depression years to help her family, always doing what she could for them; and
WHEREAS, Nora has been a fixture in the Galewood Community for the past 42 years, helping her neighbors and acting as a community representative; and
WHEREAS, Nora has been involved in her parish of St. Giles, and also other churches in her neighborhood, always lending a helping hand, and helping out with clothing drives, rummage sales and various church undertakings; and
WHEREAS, Nora has always been a vivacious and engaging person, giving of her time and treasure to those around her; and
WHEREAS, The leaders of this great City are cognizant of Nora's endless contributions to her community and are deeply grateful for all she has done;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here in assembly this 16thth day of October, 2013, A.D., do hereby express our gratitude and convey our deep respect to Nora Butler as she commemorates this milestone birthday.
