RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, God in His infinite wisdom and judgment has called to her eternal reward, Hester Bruce, outstanding citizen and beloved friend, June 22, 2013; and
WHEREAS, This august body has been notified of her passing by the Honorable Anthony Beale, Alderman of the 9th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Born January 26, 1935 in Chicago, Hester was the loving daughter of James (Luke) and Idell Powell. She was the fifth child born to this loving couple who instilled strong morals and values throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, Hester was a loving and devoted wife to her husband, Fred Bruce. They shared many memorable times during their thirty-two years of marriage. Hester was the president of the 100th & Prairie Avenue Block Club. She was a woman who always shared her time with her neighbors and friends. Hester enjoyed ice cream socials, Halloween, Christmas and spending quality time with her family and friends; and
WHEREAS, A cherished friend and good neighbor to all, Hester Bruce, affectionately known as Queen, Queenie, Ms. Bruce, Mother Bruce, and Ms. Hester, had enriched the lives of the young and the old. She will be deeply missed but the memory of her character, intelligence and compassion will live on in those who knew and loved her; and
WHEREAS, Hester Bruce Debra Ann Appling will be reunited with her husband, who preceded her in death, but she leaves to celebrate her life and cherish her memory, her loving son, Steve Bruce Sr., sisters, Delores (Bancroft) Gowie, Anna Marie Perkins, Cynthia Bailey; her grandchildren, Penny Johnson, Tawanna Bruce-Smith (Greg), Nathan Garrett, Steve Bruce Jr. (Alice), DeAnna Joy Bruce (Garnet) and Aaron Smith; her great grandchildren, Tyler, Gregory, Kalif, Isaiah, Kyra, Jeremiah, Zoe, Phoenix, Tia and Kalon and a host of cousins, nephews, nieces, neighbors and an endless number of close friends and extended family; now, therefore,
