MEMORIAL RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Charlotte Rapoport, nee Hiken, born September 21, 1927, was called by God to her eternal reward on March 18, 2011; and
WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of her passing by The Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman of the 39th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Charlotte Rapoport, was an active and vital member of her community. The beloved wife of the late Alec; loving mother of Simeon, Aaron (Eileen), Esther (Jeffrey) Craven and Tzippy Frances (Yoel) Oppenheimer; dear Bubbee of ten and great-grandmother of two; cherished aunt of Gay Eisen; fond sister of the late Virginia Levine. Charlotte Rapoport leaves a legacy of faith, compasison, dignity and love; and
WHEREAS, Charlotte Rapoport, born in Chicago, the second daughter born to Francis Edna and Samuel Hiken, graduated from Senn High School, attended Wright Junior College, and began to train as a nurse at Mr. Sinai Hospital until her father's death curtailed her education, as she then devoted her time assisting her mother with the family dry cleaning and tailor shop; and
WHEREAS, Charlotte Rapoport, married her husband Alec on July 4, 1955, moved into the Hollywood Park neighborhood, and gave birth to her children Sim, Aaron, Esther and Tzippy; upon Alec's untimely passing in 1976, Charlotte gathered her strength and provided for her family by working part-time at Handelman Photography Studio allowing herto be home after school each day; as the children grew older she worked full time as secretary to the president of Atlantis Matchbook Company; and
WHEREAS, Charlotte Rapoport, personified civic duty, as an active board member of Congregation Shaare Tikva, a longtime officer of the Hollywood North Park Community Association and tremendous contributor to the strong fabric of her neighborhood; she was referred to by her children as a "True Chicago Girl" due to her deep familiarity with the City and her preference for traveling by public transportation; and
