MEMORIAL RESOLUTION IN HONOR OF SHANNON FRANCIS THURSTON PENA
WHEREAS, Almighty God in His infinite wisdom chose March 9, 2014 as the day He would call His precious child, Shannon Francis Thurston Pena home to her eternal reward; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by the Honorable Michelle A. Harris, Alderman of the 8th Ward; and
WHEREAS, On April 3, 1979 Curtis and Catherine Thurston became the proud parents of their daughter, Shannon Francis. She was her mothers' third child. Shannon grew up in Roanoke, Virginia and Oak Park, Illinois. She graduated from Olive Harvey Middle College and attended Malcolm X Community College and Kennedy King School for Culinary Arts. Shannon's desire was to become a culinary chef, and was an employee in the food industry before her transition; and
WHEREAS, Shannon possessed other talents besides culinary arts, she sang beautifully and did voice characterizations. She accepted Christ as her personal Savior, was baptized and joyously participated with the congregation at New Philadelphia M.B. Church under the pastorate of Rev. Horace Mitchell; and
WHEREAS, In 1999, Shannon became the mother of her son, Anthony Jonathan Boose. She moved to New Orleans in 2000 seeking new opportunities, but in 2003 she migrated to Chicago to be with her family and loved ones. She met the man who was to become her loving husband, Fidencio Pena and the father of their two children Caden and Noah. Shannon and Fidencio were united in holy matrimony on October 30, 2011 and on that same day Caden and Noah were baptized at Ascension Lutheran Church in Waukesha, Wisconsin; and
WHEREAS, Her life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Shannon Francis Thurston Pena to her family members, friends and all who knew her, and enabled her to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, To her beloved family, Shannon imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity. She leaves to celebrate her life ...
