A Resolution Honoring Chicago Suburban Radio Association
WHEREAS, Amateur Radio has historically played a significant role in developing world wide radio communications; and,
WHEREAS, Amateur Radio Operators have also provided countless hours of community services thorough these decades; and,
WHEREAS, these same individuals have further demonstrated their value in public. assistance by providing free radio communications for local parades, bike-a-thons, fairs and other charitable events such as the Chicago Marathon; and,
WHEREAS, Amateur Radio once again proved its undisputed relevant in the modern world by providing emergency communications when other systems failed in the devastation of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, and other local and international disasters; and,
WHEREAS, the ARRL, Amateur Radio Field Day exercise and demonstration of the Radio Amateurs' skills and readiness to provide self-supporting communications even in the fields without further infrastructure will be held on June 25th and June 26th, 2011;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that we, the Mayor and members ofthe City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this 4th Day of May, 2011 A.D. do hereby declare June 20th through June 26th, 2011 to be known as Amateur Radio Week in recognition of the important emergency preparedness exercise and call upon all citizens to pay tribute to the Amateur Radio operators in our City.
