RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, GE Capital employees will participate in a wide array of volunteer efforts on Friday, May 6, 2011, as part of the ninth consecutive GE Community Day in Chicago; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Nearly 750 GE employees will give back to the community by taking on volunteer projects centered around hunger, the environment, school improvements, and developmentally disabled athletes; and
WHEREAS, Among their chosen projects will be the planting of an herb garden, the repairing of a school gymnasium, the painting and cleaning of a play yard, and the enthusiastic cheering on of the thousands of athletes participating in the Special Olympics' Spring Games; and
WHEREAS, GE will also present the Greater Chicago Food Depository with a donation for one hundred twenty-thousand dollars, thereby contributing to the campaign to fight hunger in the Chicago area; and
WHEREAS, GE Capital volunteers and community partners, along with Alderman Burke, Congressman Danny Davis and GCFD Executive Director Kate Maehr, will participate in a GE Community Day kick-off celebration at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, May 6, 2011, at the Greater Chicago Food Depository located at 4100 West Ann Lurie Place in Chicago; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this fourth day of May, 2010, do hereby congratulate the generosity and spirit of volunteerism displayed by the participants of this event and do hereby declare Friday, May 6, 2011, to be GE Community Day in Chicago; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Jeffrey A. Malehorn, President and CEO of GE Capital's Commercial Distribution Finance Division.
