CONGRATULATIONS EXTENDED TO THE ACTORS' EQUITY ASSOCIATION ON 100th ANNIVERSARY
 
 
WHEREAS, the Actor's Equity Association is celebrating its 100 1 year as a nationally recognized Union that represents professional stage actors and stage managers - nearly 2,000 of whom live and work in Chicago and the State of Illinois, and
 
WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of this anniversary by Alderman Margaret Laurino, 39th Ward; and
 
WHEREAS, the Actors' Equity Association is the symbol of excellence in the American Theater and its members have inspired generations of audiences,
 
WHEREAS, Actors' Equity Association has been a catalyst for a richly diverse and rewarding theatrical community in Chicago, with more than 75 theaters that use Equity contracts and employ Equity members, and
 
WHEREAS, the Actors' Equity Association has, since the formation ofthe Union in 1913, believed in diversity, dignity and inclusion onstage, backstage and in the audience, and
 
WHEREAS, the Actors' Equity Association has been, throughout its history, a leader for social change and was among Ihe first to stand up against segregation and denounce blacklisting, and
 
WHEREAS, the Actors' Equity Association plays an important role in gaining public funding for the arts, and is a supporter ofthe Chicago Cultural Plan; now, therefore.
 
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this eighth day of May 2013 , do hereby congratulate the Actor's Equity Association on the occasion of its 100th Ann iversary and for the century of cultural and economic contributions it has made to the City ofChicago
 
Be It Further Resolved, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the representatives of the Actors' Equity Association.
