RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, William J. "Bill" Murray was inducted into the Irish American Hall of Fame at the Irish American Heritage Center's 2017 Awards Gala on June 10, 2017; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this honor by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

 

WHEREAS, Founded in 2011, the Irish American Heritage Center's Hall of Fame has inducted famous icons, past and present, including President John F. Kennedy, playwright Eugene O'Neill, author F. Scott Fitzgerald and dancer Michael Flatley; and

 

WHEREAS, One of eight children of a lumber salesman and a mailroom clerk, William J. "Bill" Murray was raised in north suburban Wilmette where he attended Loyola Academy; and

 

WHEREAS, William J. "Bill" Murray got his start at the Second City comedy club in Chicago's Old Town neighborhood before joining the cast of Saturday Night Live in New York City; and

 

WHEREAS, William J. "Bill" Murray has starred in an impressive catalog of memorable films which have brought joy to countless viewers, including Caddy shack, Ghostbusters, Groundhog Day, Meatballs, Stripes, Tootsie and What About Bob?; and

 

WHEREAS, William J. "Bill" Murray has distinguished himself as a much-beloved performer and favorite son of Chicago; and

 

WHEREAS, William J. "Bill" Murray is the recipient of a Golden Globe award, a BAFTA and the Mark Twain Prize for Humor; and

 

WHEREAS, The comedic genius and dedication of William J. "Bill" Murray serve as an example to all; now, therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-eighth day of June, 2017, do hereby

 

 

congratulate William J. "Bill" Murray on his induction into the Irish American Hall of Fame and do hereby express our best wishes for his continued success; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to William J. "Bill" Murray.
