RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable Eugene Schulter completed his tenure as the Alderman of the 47th Ward in May 2011, following thirty-six years of distinguished public service; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Ameya Pawar; and
WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of Chicago's North Side, the Honorable Eugene Schulter dedicated his career to ensuring that the neighborhoods of the 47th Ward were among the finest in Chicago; and
WHEREAS, First elected in 1975, the Honorable Eugene Schulter was among the youngest aldermen ever to serve in the Chicago City Council; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his esteemed career as an elected official, the Honorable Eugene Schulter worked tirelessly with community members, business leaders and other elected officials to create and maintain neighborhoods in which Chicagoans are proud to live; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Eugene Schulter served as the Chairman for the Chicago City Council Committee on License and Consumer Protection; and
WHEREAS, Among the Honorable Eugene Schulter's many accomplishments are the creation of the North Center Senior Campus, a nationally recognized housing complex for neighborhood residents over the age of fifty-five, and the development of the Ravenswood Industrial corridor; and
WHEREAS, Over the last several years, the Honorable Eugene Schulter assisted 47th Ward businesses in obtaining nearly two million dollars in grant funding; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Eugene Schulter fought to bring millions of dollars in improvements for local schools and public transportation sites to his ward; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we. the Mayor and the members ofthe Chicago City Council assembled this eighth day of June, 2011, do hereby express our gratitude to the Honorable Eugene Schulter for his thirty-six years of service to the people of the 47th Ward, and do hereby wish him much success in all of his future endeavors; and
