RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Sue Gin has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 73; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A prominent Chicago entrepreneur and philanthropist, Sue Gin was the loving and devoted wife of the late William G. McGowan; and
WHEREAS, The daughter of Cantonese immigrants, Sue Gin was raised in Aurora where her family ran a restaurant; and
WHEREAS, Sue Gin attended Aurora High School and DePaul University; and
WHEREAS, Sue Gin began her career at Dunbar Building Corp., where she learned the real estate business from developer Louis R. Silverman and used that knowledge to build her own real estate empire; and
WHEREAS, Sue Gin further expanded her success when she founded Flying Food Group, a catering company which supplies meals to more than 70 airlines and many of the nation's Starbucks coffee shops; and
WHEREAS, In recognition of her remarkable achievement and true pioneering spirit, Sue Gin was named one of the 20 most powerful women in business by Crain's Chicago Business; and
WHEREAS, Sue Gin served as the President of the William G. McGowan Charitable Fund named after her late husband who was the founder of MCI Communications; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Sue Gin serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, Known as much for her business savvy as for her generosity and kindness, Sue Gin will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her many relatives, friends and. admirers; and
WHEREAS, To her beloved family, Sue Gin imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this eighth day of October, 2014, do hereby commemorate Sue Gin for her grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to her family; and
