RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Jozef Cardinal Glemp has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 83; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, As the President of the Episcopal Conference of Poland from 1981 to 2004, Jozef Cardinal Glemp led his country's Catholic church through a tumultuous era; and
WHEREAS, Jozef Cardinal Glemp served as Archbishop of Warsaw from 1981 to 2007 and as the Primate of Poland from 1981 to 1992; and
WHEREAS, Jozef Cardinal Glemp supported the Solidarity movement and its leader, Lech Walesa; and
WHEREAS, Jozef Cardinal Glemp used his influence to encourage peaceful resolutions to the conflicts between Solidarity and Poland's Communist regime; and
WHEREAS, Jozef Cardinal Glemp played an important role in the downfall of Poland's Communist regime in 1989; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Jozef Cardinal Glemp serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Jozef Cardinal Glemp to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family and to the nation of Poland, Jozef Cardinal Glemp imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this thirteenth day of February, 2013, do hereby commemorate Jozef Cardinal Glemp for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Jozef Cardinal Glemp.
