RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Ariel Sharon has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of eighty-five; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, A former military leader and a widely admired statesman, the Honorable Ariel Sharon served as the 11th Prime Minister of Israel from 2001 to 2006; and
 
WHEREAS, Born to Russian immigrant parents in a farming community north of Tel Aviv, the Honorable Ariel Sharon joined the Haganah, the pre-state Jewish defense force; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Ariel Sharon served in the Israeli army from its inception in 1948; and
 
WHEREAS, Considered the greatest field commander in his nation's history, the Honorable Ariel Sharon was known for his bold tactics and rose to the rank of General; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Ariel Sharon became Israel's Defense Minister and served his nation with the utmost commitment and dedication; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Ariel Sharon considered his finest hour in uniform was during the 1973 Mideast war when he led 27,000 Israelis in a daring drive across the Suez Canal that turned the tide to victory; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Ariel Sharon will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
 
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Honorable Ariel Sharon imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this fifth day of February, 2014, do hereby commemorate the Honorable Ariel Sharon for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of the Honorable Ariel Sharon. /
