RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Joseph V. Murray has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 88; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Joseph V. Murray was a retired Battalion Chief with the Chicago Fire Department and the loving husband of the late Rosella, nee Hannet; and
WHEREAS, Joseph V. Murray was the much-adored father of Susan, Kathleen, Jayne, Patti Jo, Michael, Charlene, Mary, Timothy, James and the late Little Joe and John, the grandfather of 39 and the greatgrandfather of 30 to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, Known as "Joe " to his many comrades and friends, Joseph V. Murray ably served as a firefighter for nearly four decades and was the recipient of several heroism awards; and
WHEREAS, Joseph V. Murray was one of the many firemen at the scene of the 1958 Our Lady of the Angels Fire; and
WHEREAS, On that tragic day, Joseph V. Murray climbed a ladder to one of the classroom's windows and valiantly rescued children; and
WHEREAS, A man of deep faith and character, Joseph V. Murray was a devout member of Immaculate Conception Parish where he attended daily Mass; and
WHEREAS, Following a long and highly successful career in public service, Joseph V. Murray retired in 1991 as Chief from Battalion No. 11; and
WHEREAS, The bravery, sacrifice and dedication of Joseph V. Murray serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Joseph V. Murray to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, Joseph V. Murray will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Joseph V. Murray imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
