RESOLUTION: A TRIBUTE TO AMICUS POLONIAE

 

 

WHEREAS, In the fall of 1990, the Polish National Alliance founded a legal clinic to provide representation and advice to the Polish community of Chicago; and

 

WHEREAS, The Amicus Poloniae is partnered with the Chicago Volunteer Legal Services Foundation and remains one of the busiest of their 25 legal clinics that served more than 17,000 people in the last year; and

 

WHEREAS, The Amicus Poloniae has an average of 10 to 20 lawyers assisting up to 60 clients at their monthly gathering, and 150 lawyers, judges, law students, translators and other volunteers available as a resource to the Polish community; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago Volunteer Legal Services Foundation has recognized the work of Amicus Poloniae volunteers Marcy Labedz, Andrzej Maczek, Anthony M. Slawniak, Ursula Matelski, and Mark Dobrzycki with the Distinguished Service Award; and

 

WHEREAS, the Amicus Poloniae has had such distinguished legal minds as Illinois State Senator John Mulroe, retired Judge James Shapiro, Les Kuczynski, and Joan Smuda ofthe Illinois Attorney General's Ofiice volunteer their service; now therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED That we, the Mayor and members of the City of Chicago City Council, gathered this 28th day of October, 2015 AD, do hereby pause to pay tribute to the civic achievements of the Polish National Alliance Amicus Poloniae and commend the organization's on behalf of the Polish people in their native land, in this city and worldwide.

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to the Polish National Alliance Amicus Poloniae.
