TRIBUTE TO MRS. HATTIE B. CALDWELL DANSBY

WHEREAS, Almighty God, in His Infinite Wisdom, has granted Mrs. Hattie B. Caldwell Dansby, an outstanding citizen and member of her community, eternal rest on March 21, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Ninety-six years ago, Mrs. Hattie B. Caldwell Dansby started her life journey in Nashville, Tennessee as one of the daughters ofthe late Clemmons and Alberta Caldwell. She was the youngest of three children who blessed the Caldwell Family home. She graduated from Pear High School in 1937 and in 1943 she was a graduate of Tennessee A&I State College, which is now Tennessee State University, majoring in Elementary Education; and

WHEREAS, In August 1943 Hattie and Charles Dansby were married. The couple moved from Nashville and lived in Louisville, Kentucky and Indianapolis, Indiana before settling in Chicago and making it their home. Charles gained employment with the Chicago Transit Authority and Hattie worked at Billings Hospital, which is now known as University of Chicago Hospital. After years of dedicated service to the hospital, Hattie left to begin having children. She and Charles were blessed with five children, Helayne, Charles, William (Danny), Donna and Joan; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Hattie B. Caldwell Dansby volunteered at Burnside Elementary School once here children were old enough to attend. Hattie's strong work ethic and pleasant demeanor gained the attention ofthe teachers and the principal. She was offered a full time paid position. Ms. Hattie worked for the University of Chicago and for the Chicago Public School system teaching the children with disabilities. She worked as support staff at Chicago Vocation High School, Kinzie Elementary School and Powell Elementary School; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Hattie B. Caldwell Dansby retired at the age of 80, but until then she was a vital and active member of the Pearl High Club of'37,'38,'39; Tennessee State University Alumni Association, Chesterfield Community Council and the Ora Higgins Yout...
