Resolution Honoring Gregris Reed Lucas
WHEREAS, The members of the City Council learned with deep sorrow and regret of the death of Gregris Reed Lucas on Saturday, January 2, 2016; and
WHEREAS, Gregris Reed Lucas was born in Chicago on July 5,1953, graduated from Parker High School, enrolled in the Nursing Program at Dawson Technical Institute, and later attended Kennedy King College; and
WHEREAS, Gregris Reed Lucas was an active volunteer and leader in the community, mentoring children at Wendell Smith Elementary School where she was a room mother, lunchroom helper, assistant to the school counselor and school clerk, co-facilitator to the school cheerleading team, and playwright for the school's Black History Assembly; and
WHEREAS, Gregris Reed Lucas worked to better her neighborhood through the Community Alternative Police Strategy Program (CAPS), and as a Ward Volunteer; and
WHEREAS, Gregris Reed Lucas served faithfully in multiple ministries at the Apostolic Church of God, participating in the Consolation Support Ministry, Marriage Ministry, New Members Ministry, and Sunday School; and
WHEREAS, Gregris Reed Lucas had a 30 year career with the Luster Products Company, working her way from the company plant to a management position where she coordinated many of the company's events and hosted the weekly Bible Study group; and
WHEREAS, Gregris Reed Lucas was adored and respected by her friends, family, and colleagues and will be remembered for her resolve, her commitment to her community, her devotion to faith, her love for children, her kind words of encouragement, and her always-smiling face; and
WHEAREAS, the death of Gregris Reed Lucas is deeply felt by her family, friends, colleagues, and all who knew and loved her, her presence in our community will be greatly missed; and now, therefore,
