RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Zbigniew Brzezinski has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 89; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Zbigniew Brzezinski served as National Security Advisor under President Jimmy Carter; and
WHEREAS, During Zbigniew Brzezinski's tenure, the United States brokered the Camp David Accords, normalized relations with the People's Republic of China and signed the second Strategic Arms Limitation Treaty (SALT II); and
WHEREAS, In 1981 President Jimmy Carter presented Zbigniew Brzezinski with the Medal of Freedom for his role "as an architect of world peace" and for his leadership in "ending the estrangement of the Chinese and American people'; and
WHEREAS, Zbigniew Brzezinski was involved with efforts to bring the former Soviet republics into the North Atlantic Treaty Organization; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Zbigniew Brzezinski serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, To his wife, Emilie, and his three children, Ian, Mark and Mika, Zbigniew Brzezinski imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-eighth day of June, 2017, do hereby commemorate Zbigniew Brzezinski for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
