RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable Carlo Azeglio Ciampi has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 95; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Carlo Azeglio Ciampi was a former Prime Minister and President of Italy who helped to launch the euro currency as Minister of the Treasury; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Carlo Azeglio Ciampi was considered above politics and never belonged to a political party; and
WHEREAS, Known for his diligence and accountability, the Honorable Carlo Azeglio Ciampi served as Prime Minister from 1993 to 1994 and was President from 1999 to 2006; and
WHEREAS, A highly respected economist, the Honorable Carlo Azeglio Ciampi was Governor of the Bank of Italy for 14 years; and
WHEREAS, A native of the Tuscan port city of Leghorn, the Honorable Carlo Azeglio Ciampi graduated from Normal University in Pisa and earned a law degree; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Carlo Azeglio Ciampi serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Carlo Azeglio Ciampi was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his loving wife, Franca, and his two children, the Honorable Carlo Azeglio Ciampi imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this fifth day of October, 2016, do hereby commemorate the Honorable Carlo Azeglio Ciampi for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
